TOP SPOT
This auction saw this lovely Natasha plate coming in at the top, NA74 SHA, which was won for £45,033. The name Natasha is a diminutive form of the Russian name Natalya, which means "born on Christmas Day". The name is derived from the Latin phrase Natale domini, which also means "Christmas Day. Natasha has been used as an independent name outside of Russian-speaking countries since the late 1800s. The name Tash or Tasha is a shortened form of Natasha.
In at second place was 8055 M (Boss M) selling for £32,193. Coming in at 3rd place and the top car-themed plate in this auction was 330 S selling for £30,267. Considering the sale price, maybe the purchaser has plans to assign it onto a Ferrari 330 or maybe a BMW, who knows. The 4th and 5th spot where again name plates with AYA 9N (Ayan) which sold for £28,970 Ayan is an Arabic name that means "gift from God". It comes from the name Ayaan, which is a popular Muslim and Hindi name. Then 55 UKH (Sukh) at £28,854, the short gender-neutral name Sukh is an Indian name that expresses tranquillity and joy. The name means 'happiness' in Sanskrit, Hindi, Punjabi, and Sindhi languages. Sukh is considered the opposite of 'dukh' meaning 'sadness.
Words
A variety of words were on offer in this auction, D199 GER (£12,933), possibly somebody’s nickname or a JCB operator / enthusiast. Also, KLA 55Y (£11,649), which is clearly an alternative spelling of "Classy". The word BAN 3D (band or banned) achieved £9,209 which certainly wasn’t forbidden in this auction and the appropriately Halloween-themed GH05 STX sold for a scary £6,500.
Others sold where CU55 TOM at £7,810, and BA11 AST selling for £7,810.
Perfect plate for an avid gamer was GAM 2E £6,782, while MED 18A (£5,229) would be a great plate for an online content creator or a journalist possibly, UN74 MED £5,088 and HOR 11D £4,613, and a few interesting plates where SHE 510W £6,513 and UUU 510W £4,266.
Names
We've already seen the 3 names that appeared in the Top 10 above NA74 SHA, AYA 9N and 55 UKH, there were also other name plates sold in this auction that included AKE 6LM (Akeel) at £20,624, BHA 4V (Bhav) at £19,545 and AFZ 81 (Afzal) at £19,353 and MRS 41F (Mr Saif) at £17,581. SOH 9L (£17,427) is clearly a 'Sohal' plate, and RHE 2A (£16,400) works nicely for the name 'Rhea'.
HAR 155K (Harris K) and BR17 ONS (Britons) both sold for £14,217. We've seen so many 'Singh' plates over the years, such as J851 NGH (£10,365), that it almost seems surprising that there are still variations available. It's just one of those fortunate names that crops up in many registration configurations.
Cars
As mentioned above 330 S in our summary of the top performers, possibly 488 JP £15,527 may also be destined for a Ferrari. As always, a few Porsche plates were on offer this month, 992 SW sold for £12,920, 911 HW for £12,419, 997 JAY for £12,291, 911 LRH for £10,378 and POR 911W for a modest £4,176.
Sports
For football fans there were AR57 NAL (£9,081) and W657 HAM (£7,335), two Premier League football plates that sold for, in our opinion quite reasonable prices.
Others
Not to disappoint a few plates that are visually pleasing with the impact of symmetry or repetition of characters, OO14 OOO £5,807 and XXX 777X £4,009.
The stats
September's DVLA online auction comprised 2,000 lots, 1,978 of which were sold and 22 unsold. Purchasers spent a total of £6,087,092, delivering £5,699,192 to the Treasury.
